Wow – I see from the time stamp that it’s been over two years since my last blog post. Not intentional but obviously I let things slide. I think it’s called life 101! I put this little site up over 4 years ago with nary a gig in sight. Fast forward to today and things are busy.
This past March I was involved with an important fundraiser for Atira Women’s Resource Society staged at Frankie’s Jazz Bar in Vancouver. I was blessed to be included with several talented local female musicians – the Strong Women Strong Music series features all women singers and instrumentalists. There is definitely something different about working with an all women formation, it’s subtle but noticeable. Illuminating and enjoyable!
Leading up to this gig I realized – hey I haven’t blogged in like 2 years, it’s time for a new site and photos and on and on. Plus in my heart my next step is to focus on songwriting (and I do have some news to post about that!). Well with the realities of a really full life I just had to focus on what was important at that time which was promoting and rehearsing for the show. Did I mention I need a new site? lol..
It’s interesting operating as an independent artist. It includes changing hats several times a day and deciding on what tasks are priority – booking gigs, working on charts, lining up musicians, accounting, practising, listening to others music that you enjoy, and then just trying to find some time in there to rest and get re-inspired and stay connected to your own life and loved ones.
Although it’s challenging, I am grateful every day that I get to sing and meet and work with other artists. Stay tuned because it seems like I’m still on the early part of this journey and it’s turning out even better than I ever thought it could be!
PPS next fundraiser is another very important one for the organization – BC Male Survivors of Sexual Abuse and features Vancouver Gospel sensation Marcus Mosely and Legendary Blues Musician Jim Byrnes in addition to many other wonderful artists and actors. Keep your eyes on the Upcoming Shows page for info but mark April 24 in your calendars!
